Released on September 16, 2022, Starcrawler's third release, "She Said" is a feral, listlessly anarchistic rock and roll with undercurrents in 1970s breezy California rock, scattered with modern rock garnishes, Cracker Jack prize.
"Roadkill" starts off the album as a modern punkish overture fraught with tight riffs.
"She Said" slows things down a bit and has a similar feel to Marcy's Playground "Sex and Candy."
"Stranded" is a fun, infectious, song with 70s rock influences like The Stooges.
"Thursday" has a Rolling Stones, and The Clash blended sound. "Broken Angel" is a mid-tempo song with tasty guitars. There is a little slide guitar playing going on which reminds me of The Doors "Moonlight Drive" slide riff.
"Jetblack" cool drum opening to the song. It has a minor key folky feel with an up tempo groove and killer guitar solo. "True" is a fun rocking song, while "Midnight" is a dreamy and seductive piece. "Runaway" picks up the pace reminiscent of early Blondie. "Better Place" closes the album off with nice laid back acoustic guitars with country comforts.
Overall, the album is a satisfying blend of where Starcrawler bearings are pointed toward. A good mix of 70s hard rock and punk fused with bluesy country ramblings of The Rolling Stones. A good measure of modern rock sensibilities combined with smart lyrics and the growing persona of front woman Arrow De Wilde.
This is a band developing. I am looking forward to see how they grow. They have all the right ingredients to be rock superstars. They have the charisma, moxie, attitude, and intelligence to make it happen. The right mixture is what they need to find.
